About the Campaign
Our Nursing faculty is in need of a ventilator to use with our SimMan to teach students about mechanical ventilation. Currently, we have no equipment such as this to train students.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to be paired with funds from the SAU Foundation to help us make this project a reality. We would greatly appreciate your consideration to support this valuable project!
Ventilators are used with patients needing respiratory support, for example, COVID patients. We teach the didactic content in the classroom; however, we have no equipment for hands-on experience in the simulation area.
The Department of Nursing’s Health Science Simulation Center is equipped with modern simulated patients and is a vital part of our BSN program. The Center provides a facility for experiential student learning. This type of learning simulates “real” nursing experiences. The mechanical ventilator will be part of those experiences. The faculty will plan clinical scenario cases that simulate patients with respiratory difficulty/failure needing mechanical assistance. Students will be able to use evidence-base practice skills to make decision making judgement to manage and problem solve situations involved with each case. Due to COVID-19, this is very similar to professional nursing practice within our hospitals today.
