Eight inducted into SAU Sports Hall of Fame

Eight new members were inducted into the Southern Arkansas University Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 14.

Honorees from the golden era include football All-American Ed Choate (1971-1974), basketball all-conference standout Frank Dolan (1956-1960), and track and field All-American George Eriquezzo (1965-1968).

Modern era athletes inducted were baseball All-American Arturo Cherena (1987-1988), football All-American Eddie Key (1998-2001), men’s tennis All-American Paolo Pezzoli (1986-1989), and volleyball All-American Kristin (Smith) “Smitty” Olson (1992-1994), who also competed in track and field.

Louis Blanchard, long-time faculty athletic representative and former University faculty member, is being honored for meritorious service.
