A Familiar Face, A New Role: Welcoming Makenzi Hamilton to Alumni Relations

The Southern Arkansas University Alumni Association
is thrilled to welcome Makenzi Hamilton as the new
executive director of Alumni Relations.
A proud two-time graduate of SAU, Hamilton has
dedicated more than a decade to serving the University in both
academic and administrative roles. From the classroom to the
admissions office, her passion for supporting students and building
meaningful connections has left a lasting mark on campus.

Hamilton earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice in 2014, followed by a Master of Education in College Counseling and Student Affairs in 2016. Since then, her journey at SAU has been defined by service and leadership. Most recently, she spent seven years as director of recruitment in the Office of Admissions, where she co-led the President’s Ambassadors and helped welcome new generations of Muleriders to campus. She has also served as an academic advisor, admissions counselor, and instructor for key student success courses.

Now, as executive director of Alumni Relations, Hamilton will lead efforts to strengthen engagement between alumni and the University, working closely with the SAUAA Board of Directors and reporting to Dr. Connie Wilson, vice president for Advancement.

“I’m excited to welcome Makenzi into this new role,” said Dr. Wilson. “Her deep love for SAU and her incredible ability to connect with people make her a perfect fit to lead our alumni efforts.”

Throughout her time at SAU, Hamilton has been involved in numerous campus initiatives and committees. She has served as president of the Staff Senate, a co-coordinator for the Mulerider mascot program, and a long-standing member of the Miss SAU Board of Directors. A graduate of the 2018–2019 Mulerider L.E.A.D. class, she is also a frequent presenter at state conferences and a proud recipient of the Mary Anna King Staff Excellence Award, among other honors.

For Hamilton, stepping into this new role is a full-circle moment.

“SAU has shaped so much of who I am—both personally and professionally,” she shared. “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to give back to the place that has given me so much. I look forward to connecting with our alumni, hearing their stories, and finding meaningful ways for them to stay involved in the life of the University.”

Hamilton lives in Magnolia with her two Goldendoodles, Penelope and Georgia. And while her title may be new, her heart for SAU—and its people—has always been a guiding force.
