On a bright spring day, Southern Arkansas University’s Alumni Center came alive with the energy and camaraderie of the inaugural Ag Alumni Day – a special reunion bringing together agriculture alumni from across generations to reconnect with each other and their alma mater.
This first-ever event offered more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of shared passion and progress. Alumni arrived eager to catch up, exchange stories, and reflect on how their experiences at SAU had shaped their personal and professional journeys.
Speakers from both the faculty and agriculture industry shared insights into the latest trends and innovations transforming the field. From advancements in sustainable farming to cutting-edge technology in crop and livestock management, the presentations highlighted how SAU continues to prepare students for success in a rapidly evolving industry.
“The SAU Ag Alumni Day was an opportunity for alumni to reconnect and reflect on the impact of SAU Agriculture. Muleriders have a strong foundation in hard work, leadership, and sense of community like none other,” noted Dr. Copie Moore, chair of SAU’s Agriculture department and associate professor of agriculture. “I sincerely appreciated the help of the Ag Alumni Day planning committee, as well as the leadership portrayed by current SAU students and faculty members, in making this event a reality. We are always stronger together, and I hope this is something that we will continue to do.”
A key feature of the day was a tour of SAU’s agriculture facilities, where alumni witnessed firsthand the University’s investment in modern classrooms, research labs, and experimental farms. Demonstrations of new equipment and sustainable practices sparked lively discussions and a sense of pride in how far the program has grown since many of the attendees graduated.
Beyond the formal events, the day was filled with warm conversations and renewed connections – from tales of family farms and agribusiness ventures to shared hopes for the future of agriculture in Arkansas and beyond. The event underscored the strong, enduring bond between SAU and its agricultural alumni community.
“We’re always excited to welcome our alumni back home to Southern Arkansas University,” said Dr. Connie Wilson, vice president for Advancement. “The Ag Alumni Day was a wonderful event filled with stories, laughter, and reminiscing. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the rich agricultural heritage that continues to thrive at SAU.”
As the first Ag Alumni Day concluded, excitement was already building for what promises to become a cherished tradition. A time to celebrate roots, nurture growth, and come home to the University that helped cultivate it all.
