The Third Annual Ladies Only Champagne Bingo, sponsored by the SAU Alumni Association, scored a touchdown in fundraising for the Mulerider football team.
“It only took three hours for the ladies of champagne bingo to raise a record $8,000 for the SAU Mulerider Football Team,” said SAU Director of Alumni Relations Ceil Bridges. “The sold-out event was attended by 200 women dressed in ‘red carpet fashion.’ Members of the Mulerider Football Team graciously waited tables after making a solo walk down the red carpet.”
The theme for this year’s event was “Celebrating Us,” and each table paid tribute to a famous female vocalist. Therral and Jan Story kindly allowed use of their “barn” again for this year’s fundraising event.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better group of servers,” said Jan Story. “Every year I am amazed at the caliber of student athletes attending SAU. The football players were very attentive and fun the entire night.”
Dinner was a pecan crusted chicken and mixed green salad served with bread. Dessert was a delicious cheesecake drizzled with caramel and chocolate syrup and topped with toffee chips. Each table was served a tray of gourmet cheeses and crackers during bingo. Catering was provided by Marcia (Abbott) Jester, wife of Mulerider football standout, Jeff Jester.
Prizes were given to the bingo winners and everyone got to take home a Mulerider champagne glass.
Previous SAU groups who have received funds from Ladies Only Champagne Bingo events were the SAU Rodeo Team in 2011 and the SAU Mulerider baseball team in 2012.
The Ladies Only Champagne Bingo event won the prestigious Gold Award in 2012 for Overall Best New Alumni Program from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District IV.
