Unamba signs with St. Louis Rams as a free agent

Former Southern Arkansas All-America cornerback Don Unamba has signed a free-agent deal with the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League (NFL). The signing came shortly after the conclusion of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Unamba was only one of six to make the team and sign with the Rams following their rookie mini-camp. There were 26 undrafted rookies at the camp. He signed a contract for $1,485,000 over three years.

With the free agent signing, Unamba becomes the third Mulerider in the last nine years to sign with an NFL team. In 2004, Jordan Babineaux signed with the Seattle Seahawks and in 2011, Cedric Thornton signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Last year, Unamba started all 11 games at SAU, finishing with 47 tackles (37 solo), including 1.5 for six yards in loss. The Hurst, Texas, native also had three interceptions for 66 yards in returns and set the new school record with 17 pass breakups, while also blocking two kicks and recovering a fumble.
