Lewis Tellis Porterfield, 77 of Magnolia, AR died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at the Dudneywood Assisted Living in Magnolia.

He was born February 16, 1936, in Center Point, Ark. to the late Arthur and Obie (Ayers) Porterfield and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Lewis was a former instructor of Vocational of Agriculture at the Mt. Holly Public Schools in Mt. Holly, Ark. He retired as farm foreman after 43 years at Southern Arkansas University and was a member of numerous Agricultural Organizations.

Lewis is survived by his wife of 55 years Maxine Porterfield of Magnolia; daughter Sheila Karnes and husband Dennis of Flower Mound, Texas; brothers Thatis Porterfield and wife Wanda of Dallas, Texas, Thomas Porterfield and wife Cleta of Glendale, Calif.; grandsons Jeff Pike and wife Rebecca Perkins of Lewisville, Texas, Michael Karnes of Flower Mound, Texas; his caregivers Sissy McMahen, Georgia White, and Kim Bowman.

Pallbearers were David Pyle, Jerry Pyle, Ernest Pyle, Jeff Pike, Dennis Karnes, and Michael Karnes. Honorary pallbearers were the faculty of Southern Arkansas University Department of Agriculture.

The family requests memorial donations can be made to the Lewis and Maxine Porterfield Scholarship Fund or SAU Foundation, P.O. Box 9174, Magnolia, AR 71754-9174; or to the charity of donor’s choice.
